There was one stop that I knew we couldn’t miss on our recent trip to NYC for the holidays — especially after seeing the sugary, sweet photos circulating Instagram and blowing up the Internet. DO, Cookie Dough Confections opened earlier this year and is New York City’s first-ever cookie dough scoop shop.
Wait what – a raw cookie dough shop? Yes you heard me! The shop allows you to customize your cookie dough dreams with about 20 different flavors every day along with toppings and cones. It’s basically like a regular ice cream shop. But with raw cookie dough. It’s one of those things that will make you want to scream: now why didn’t I THINK of that!?
I enjoy raw cookie dough. But Kevin? Well, let’s just say it’s on a whole different level.
Kevin isn’t afraid to admit it. He is a cookie dough monster and oftentimes when I come home he’s caught red-handed chowing down on a package of Nestle Toll House cookie dough straight from the package. So he was 100% on board for a place that does all the dirty work for you.
But one BIG thing to keep in mind – don’t come here if you’re in a hurry. This is New York City and like any hot and new place in town, there will be a line. In fact, our first visit was a failed attempt. We showed up with the cousins as part of our weekend itinerary for the holidays. But the line stretched from one side of the street to the other with a minimum wait of 45 minutes in the rain. Ummm, pass.
The second try was much better. Kevin and I showed up on a Tuesday night about 30 minutes before the shop closed and waited 15 minutes. Still crazy, but hey, it sounded so much better than 45 minutes. And the final moment has arrived! I ordered a scoop of cookie dough mixed with chocolate brownie. While Kevin got a very Instagram-worthy ice cream sandwich surrounded by cookie dough. You are allowed 3 tastings only (which definitely disappointed Kevin since we had no idea and were quickly cut off!)
The verdict? Pretty amazing.
In addition to making your cookie dough scoop creations, you can customize your own freshly-baked cookie or other cookie-inspired baked good.
Is it worth the wait? We thought so — especially if it’s a nice day. But I’d recommend going on a weekday or timing your visit to when they either first open or slightly before closing time.
While Kevin and I weren’t too concerned about getting sick from raw dough — we pretty much have stomachs of steel after all the weird stuff we’ve eaten on our travels. But according to the workers, it isn’t harmful to eat since they use a pasteurized egg product, which means no chance of salmonella. Also, the heat process kills any potentially harmful bacteria. I’m convinced! Or maybe that’s just my stomach talking.
