It’s time to kick off Kevin’s birthday, which means one thing. Time to hit up a fancy (and pricey!) steakhouse in LA. There are so many options to choose from but below are our 3 top recommendations – each offering a very different vibe. These are the top spots that know how to roll out the red carpet (oh, and the red meat!).
The Quiet, Romantic Evening: Oliver’s Prime Steakhouse
Relatively new on the scene, Oliver’s Prime is located in the heart of the thumping Sunset Strip. But inside, it’s quiet enough to have a conversation. And the lighting makes you look really good! Something I appreciated after getting a black eye earlier that day by walking into a lamp post (though it would take dining in the dark to cover that up!). This is where we celebrated Kevin’s big birthday blowout this year. The service is what makes this place stand out and the steaks were among the best. Kevin took the recommendation from our server and ordered the bison filet along with some mac n’ cheese. While I stuck to my usual fare of short ribs, which I think are best at steakhouses.
Be sure to explore — it’s located in hotel on the strip with a bird’s eye view of LA in the backdrop.
Everyone was so nice here – and we would definitely come back. The manager came over and chatted with us and even extended free drinks at the adjoining bar. I’m sold!
The High Roller: Mastro’s in Beverly Hills
You can’t beat Mastro’s in Beverly Hills. We love it so much that we’ll even go without a birthday celebration (and that says a lot!). Dress to impress and grab a seat on the top floor balcony where you can overlook all the craziness of Beverly Hills.
The only words that should come out of your mouth is bone-in filet. Well, that and the garlic mashed potatoes, Gorgonzola mac n’ cheese and maybe a seafood tower (which is on just about every table). Yep, you’ll definitely be full by the end.
Trendy, Al-fresco Dining: BOA
Brad and Angelina, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan. Yep, BOA Steakhouse is a hot spot. And in my opinion, more about the Hollywood vibe than the food. But hey, it’s a lot of fun. And where we celebrated Kevin’s birthday last year. Located right on the Sunset Strip, be sure to request an outdoor table (and depending on the night, prepare to wait EVEN if you have a reservation for one. Yes, you’re in LA.). Diners rave about the caesar salad prepared table side, but watch out because it’s spicy (ask them to hold the spice if you’re like us and can’t take it!). Best part of the meal? The pyrotechnic candle on top of the birthday dessert! Just watch your eyebrows!
